The Venetian Resort on the Las Vegas Strip replicates Venice's Grand Canal at two scales — an outdoor canal on the Strip-level promenade and an indoor canal inside the Grand Canal Shoppes — and both are available for weddings and portrait sessions.
The Venetian's canal setting: indoor and outdoor
The Venetian Resort Las Vegas, which shares its campus with The Palazzo, is one of the largest hotel complexes in the world and operates two distinct canal environments that are central to its wedding appeal. The outdoor canal runs along the front of the resort facing Las Vegas Boulevard, with a replica of the Rialto Bridge and gondola service on the water. The indoor Grand Canal Shoppes canal runs through the resort's retail and dining arcade at the second-floor level, beneath a painted sky ceiling that creates the illusion of an open Italian piazza — day and night, the light inside remains consistent and warm, making it an excellent portrait environment at any hour. The Venetian's wedding program operates through the resort's special events and weddings team, and both canal environments can be incorporated into ceremony and portrait sessions depending on access arrangements. For portrait-only sessions, our Las Vegas wedding photographers frequently incorporate both canals in a single visit.
Gondola wedding ceremonies
The gondola ceremony is the signature wedding experience that sets The Venetian apart from every other Las Vegas resort. A gondola ceremony involves an officiated wedding ceremony conducted on the water — the couple is aboard a gondola piloted by a gondolier, with the ceremony performed as the boat moves along the canal. The Venetian's gondola operations run on both the outdoor and indoor canals. The indoor Grand Canal gondola ceremony is particularly popular because the controlled environment eliminates weather uncertainty and the painted sky ceiling creates a consistently beautiful setting regardless of time of day. Capacity on a gondola is limited — these ceremonies are intimate by design, typically suited to the couple and a very small number of witnesses rather than larger wedding parties. Gondola ceremony bookings go through the resort's wedding coordination team. For a larger ceremony with a gondola portrait element rather than an on-water ceremony, the canal-side areas along the indoor promenade work well for standing ceremonies with gondolas passing as a visual backdrop. See our Las Vegas venue guide for how The Venetian compares to other resort ceremony options.
- Indoor Grand Canal gondola ceremony — weather-proof, warm light, intimate capacity
- Outdoor canal gondola — Strip-facing, natural light, seasonal weather dependency
- Canal-side standing ceremony — larger capacity, gondola as backdrop element
Photography at The Venetian
The Venetian is one of the strongest resort photography environments in Las Vegas because the indoor Grand Canal Shoppes create a completely weather-independent portrait setting with consistently warm, diffused light — no harsh midday Nevada sun, no rain risk, no seasonal constraint. The painted sky ceiling shifts in tone as the "day" progresses inside the arcade but never produces the flat, overexposed look of midday exterior shooting. The Rialto Bridge replica is the signature portrait spot: the arch over the canal, the water below and the Venetian architecture on both sides create an image that reads clearly as Venice even to people who have never been to Italy. The outdoor canal and the resort's main entrance porte-cochere on Las Vegas Boulevard work well at dusk when the exterior lighting activates. The resort also has significant square footage of ornate interior corridors, lobby spaces and dining room areas — coordinate access with the resort's team when booking. For a comprehensive Venetian portrait session, plan at minimum 90 minutes to cover both canal environments and the main interior spaces. Planning a Venetian wedding: what to know
The Venetian and Palazzo are operated as a combined campus by VICI Properties and have separate event planning teams for the two towers. When inquiring about a wedding, specify whether you want The Venetian or The Palazzo — while they share the canal infrastructure, the event spaces, room blocks and coordination contacts can differ. The resort's wedding packages typically include venue access, coordination, officiant referral and basic decoration; photography is generally arranged separately, and bringing your own photographer is standard. Lead times for prime dates — particularly fall and spring Saturdays — are typically 9–12 months. New Year's Eve and Valentine's Day require even longer lead times. The resort's size means guests can easily get lost navigating from the entrance to ceremony locations; distribute a clear map or designate a coordinator for guest wayfinding. Our wedding videography team finds the canal environment particularly well-suited to video — the gondola motion, the ambient sound of the water and the architectural detail all work in favor of cinematic footage.
Marriage license and logistical basics
The Venetian is located at 3355 Las Vegas Boulevard South, mid-Strip near Sands Avenue. The Clark County Marriage License Bureau at 201 E Clark Ave, downtown Las Vegas, is about 10–15 minutes away in light traffic. Both parties must appear in person with valid photo ID; the license costs approximately $102; there is no waiting period, no blood test required and no Nevada residency required. The license is valid for one year and the ceremony must take place in Nevada. Self-parking is available in The Venetian's parking structure off Koval Lane; valet is available at the resort entrance. Read our full marriage license guide for current bureau hours and a checklist of what to bring.
