LGBTQ+ Weddings in Las Vegas

LGBTQ+ Weddings in Las Vegas

Same-sex marriage has been legal in Nevada since 2014 and federally protected since 2015. Las Vegas is one of the most genuinely welcoming cities for LGBTQ+ couples who want a wedding that reflects who they actually are.

Legal landscape for LGBTQ+ couples in Las Vegas

Same-sex marriage is fully legal in Nevada and has been since October 2014. The Respect for Marriage Act, signed into federal law in December 2022, provides additional federal protection. At Clark County, the marriage license process is identical for all couples — both parties appear in person at the Clark County Marriage License Bureau, 201 E Clark Ave, with valid photo ID, and pay approximately $102. There is no waiting period, no residency requirement and no blood test. The license is valid for one year and the ceremony must take place in Nevada. A civil ceremony at the Office of Civil Marriages costs approximately $80. For more detail, see our marriage license guide.

Why Las Vegas works especially well for LGBTQ+ weddings

Las Vegas has structural advantages that make it a natural fit for LGBTQ+ couples. The destination wedding format means you can invite the people who actually support you without navigating complicated local politics at home. The city has an established LGBTQ+ community, particularly around the Arts District downtown and Paradise neighborhood, and the wedding industry here has served same-sex couples openly since legalization. Many couples also appreciate the privacy Las Vegas offers — a wedding here can be as public or as intimate as you want, from a small elopement with two witnesses to a full ballroom celebration.

  • No residency requirement — ideal for couples from less affirming states
  • Full-spectrum vendors from intimate chapel elopements to large resort events
  • Established LGBTQ+ community and nightlife adds to a celebration weekend atmosphere
  • Outdoor locations like Red Rock Canyon offer breathtaking ceremony backdrops

Finding genuinely affirming wedding vendors

The difference between a vendor who tolerates LGBTQ+ couples and one who genuinely celebrates them shows up on your wedding day in ways large and small. When searching:

  • Look for vendors who feature same-sex couples prominently in their portfolio — not as a token image but throughout
  • Check for explicit LGBTQ+ affirming language on their website or social profiles
  • Ask directly: "Do you have experience shooting / officiating / catering LGBTQ+ weddings?" and listen for genuine enthusiasm
  • Read third-party reviews from same-sex couples, not just the vendor's curated testimonials
  • Trust your read from the initial consultation call — you will know

Venue options across the spectrum

Las Vegas venues span the full range from intimate to grand, and most established venues serve all couples without distinction. For couples who want something personal and low-key, chapels like The Little Vegas Chapel and A Little White Wedding Chapel have welcomed same-sex couples since legalization. For larger celebrations, The Venetian/Palazzo, the Waldorf Astoria Las Vegas and the Emerald at Queensridge all have event spaces that can accommodate anything from an intimate reception to a multi-hundred-guest celebration. For outdoor ceremonies, Red Rock Canyon requires a Special Recreation Permit and Valley of Fire State Park requires a separate permit (apply around 6 weeks ahead). Both produce extraordinary photographs. See the full venues guide and elopement locations guide.

Photography that sees your relationship clearly

The best wedding photography comes from a photographer who sees the couple in front of them — not a template of what a wedding is supposed to look like. We work with couples of all genders, orientations and family configurations. We understand that a two-groom wedding and a two-bride wedding each have their own visual dynamics, and that many LGBTQ+ couples are navigating complex family situations on their wedding day — from estranged relatives to chosen family who fill roles that a traditional wedding structure does not have words for. We approach every wedding as the specific, real thing it is. Add wedding videography to capture the vows and reception in full. We also offer elopement photography for couples who want something more private and focused.

Yes. Many Las Vegas wedding chapels have welcomed same-sex couples openly since legalization. Ask directly when you contact them — most established chapels in the city will confirm clearly. The Little Vegas Chapel, A Little White Wedding Chapel and Vegas Weddings are among those with long-standing reputations for welcoming all couples.

Yes. Both locations are public lands open to all couples. Red Rock Canyon requires a Special Recreation Permit for ceremonies and professional photography. Valley of Fire State Park requires a permit and charges approximately a $10 park entry fee. Apply about 6 weeks in advance for Valley of Fire. Both locations produce exceptional wedding photographs.

Look for a photographer whose portfolio features same-sex couples throughout their work — not just as a single example. Read third-party reviews from LGBTQ+ couples. In the initial conversation, note whether they ask about your specific vision or use generic language that implies a different kind of couple. Genuine experience and enthusiasm show.
